The most demanding part of the process emerged during the application. The couple did not have the standard U.S. financial history often requested by American apartment communities. They lacked a regular history of U.S. federal income tax returns and had limited conventional U.S. bank statement history. Their employment documentation was associated with contract work, which required additional financial verification.

International newcomers may have legitimate financial resources yet find that those resources do not fit a conventional American rental-screening checklist. Renting in Reno without U.S. tax returns can therefore involve additional documentation and discussion with the leasing team.

In this case, the process required presenting other financial statements and arranging acceptable co-signer support. Requirements vary by property and applicant; foreign financial records, alternative documents, and co-signers are not automatically accepted by every community.
